The 5 Must Have Products No Family Should Be Without

Adapt or get left behind

When starting Family Safe First, I wanted to share my knowledge and experience as a cop to empower families on matters of safety. Not every article I have written has followed this exact format. The 5 must have products I am endorsing here is another example of this.

On top of practical safety and security tips, I have also provided a glimpse into topics ranging from PTSD in police officers to the epidemic of heroin/opiod overdose deaths in our country.

I believe these articles, although not seemingly relative to my blog, serve a purpose that supports the overall message of Family Safe First.

That message being that knowledge is power.

Future shock

A lot of you, including myself, are amazed and sometimes intimidated by all of the information that we are bombarded with on a daily basis. Technology keeps moving into areas of our lives that seem almost unreal. I still can’t believe that there is a small circular robot that vacuums your house while you are work.

As I’m sure that most of you can attest, I have had many instances where either friends or family members have tried in desperation to hold on to yesteryear.

Meaning they will, at all costs, resist technology and products that use them.

I still remember the day, which wasn’t that long ago, my boss telling me that texting was an unacceptable form of communication.

I’m serious.

Those words actually came out of his mouth.

Another example was my Father, not too long before his passing, resisting the use of a microwave oven (before you shake your head in laughter, he also only took baths instead of showers).

One day, I was finally able to convince him of the many wonders and efficiency that only a microwave oven can bring. After several months he admitted to me that he wished he had used “that damn thing” a long time ago.

I believe the following product lines can have a direct impact on you and your family.

1. TILE

This is one of the coolest products out there.

Here’s why.

Lets say you take the family mini-van to the local car wash for a good scrubbing and vacuum. While waiting for the attendant to wipe down your vehicle, you play catch with your 11 year old son just outside the car wash.

While throwing perfect 20 yard spirals, your wallet inadvertently falls out of your hoody pocket.

Because you have already paid, you get in the van and drive home not knowing that you have now lost your wallet.

A living nightmare scenario has just begun when you first realize that you can’t find your wallet.

Now enter stage left in this scenario a small rectangular device called TILE. If this device was placed in your wallet it would have been game over very quickly. TILE is essentially a GPS tracking device that enables you to track lost property through an App on your phone.

This is, without a doubt, the best Christmas present my wife got me this year!

2. Sittercity

This one may just be my favorite.

I’m thinking that most of you are like the rest of us and have to work to help support the family. Because of this, little Johnny or Mary will need someone to watch after them while you and the hubs are out grinding.

Also, if you are like me, you need time away from the kids to go out and enjoy yourself.

That’s where Sittercity comes in.

They are a babysitting/nanny locator company that alleviates the burden from you trying to find just the right sitter for you. Heck, they can even find someone to come and care for your dog while you’re away!

Some of the benefits offered by Sittercity  include the following:

  • A vast array of profiles for baby sitters and child care givers.
  • The ability for parents to video interview potential sitters.
  • Reviews from parents who have used the service.
  • Free background checks for child care givers.
  • User friendly website.
  • Ability to search hundreds of profiles by zip code.

One of the best aspects about using Sittercity is that they have been featured on a number of television programs as well as in the Wall Street Journal and are very well known in the industry. As a result, they have a large database of babysitters.

Also, if you have a teen or college student, they can register with Sittercity for babysitting or nanny jobs in their area. This is a great side hustle for them to make extra money for when they return to school.

3. Blink Home Video Security

As a former burglary detective with over 500 cases investigated, the single most important prevention of burglaries is the hardening of your home.

What I mean by hardening are the measures taken by you to make your home less desirable to a burglar.

One of the best ways to achieve this is to have a reliable home security system. There has been a recent boom in home security systems in the past few years with an emphasis on DIY installation platforms.

What I really like about Blink Home Video Security  is the ease of use and functionality of the system. It is completely wireless, has no set up or monthly fees and no contracts.

Blink Home Video Security is an award winning home security system that prides itself on customer service. Having a reputable home security system like Blink can also lower your homeowner’s insurance in some cases.

Check out this video and you will understand why Blink is such the rage.

4. AmberAlert GPS

This personal safety app is one of my favorites. This is a must for parents with children of all ages, especially for those who may have special needs and require that extra level of caution and protection.

AmberAlert GPS allows parents to maintain real time GPS location of their loved ones. It also allows the child, with the touch of a button, to contact their parents directly.

AmberAlert GPS is just another way that technology can improve our lives and help fight the evil in the world that I have faced for the past 23 years.

5. SwagBucks

I really like swagbucks. In my experience, SwagBucks is one of the best survey sites around.

By pumping out a few surveys a day on SwagBucks, you can easily make over $200 a month. It really is that simple. Oh, and it’s absolutely 100% FREE.

Swagbucks is a site that more people should definitely know about.

And if you sign up now they will pay you a $5 dollar signing bonus!

There are tons of reputable sites out there that pay you to fill out surveys. (Long story short, companies want to know what consumers think…so they pay survey sites, like SwagBucks,  to find out what people think. SwagBucks then passes on a portion of their compensation from companies to you.)

Some of you may be wondering why and how does this relate to personal or family safety?

The short answer is everything is relative to your safety.

If you can make extra money by taking surveys then it may enable you to afford the other featured products that I have recommended in this article.

Some of you have reached out and want to share your story with others. A blog like this one is a great way to reach those who could benefit from your experience and interests. Blogging has changed my perspective and my life.
